Caring for a textile print
A Silicone Edge Graphic is more robust than it looks. The textile is a tight 200 gsm weave, printed with pigment inks that are rated for well over a decade of stable colour in normal indoor conditions. But a few small habits will keep a print looking new for years longer.
Dust it, don't wipe it. A soft microfibre cloth, dry, brushed gently across the surface once a month is all it needs. Avoid pressing hard — the textile has a tiny amount of give, and pressing distorts the print momentarily. Never use household cleaners; the surfactants can dull the finish.
If something spills — a splash of wine, a coffee ring — remove the print from the frame first (it tucks out in a minute), lay it flat on a clean towel, and blot the stain with cold water and a plain white cloth. Work from the outside inward. Do not rub. Air-dry flat, print-side up, and it will re-tuck perfectly.
When you rotate a print out of a frame, roll it — print-side out, loosely, around a cardboard tube — rather than folding it. Store it in a cool, dry place, ideally in a cotton or paper sleeve. Folded prints eventually show creases when they're re-tensioned in the frame.
And finally: don't hang a frame in direct, prolonged sunlight if you can avoid it. The pigments are UV-stable but not UV-immune, and a south-facing wall with strong afternoon sun will slowly fade any print, ours or anyone else's. A metre or two to one side is usually enough.
Do these small things and a print will still look right in five years. Most of ours do.
